Week ending February 9

Not much can be seen from the outside.  You can see that the west side of the house is completely sided.  It appears that the north side has been complete because the scaffolding has been removed.  You can see that the south side is being worked on.  The scaffolding has moved during the week.  The builder has said they will be doing the rough plumbing and electrical work.  Still waiting to hear about the HVAC system to be installed.  I ordered the kitchen sink and faucet.  I’m also looking at the tile for the downstairs bathroom.  I’m thinking of white subway tile.  It’ll be a lot cheaper than the wall system the bathroom consultant suggested (and it will look better).

Week ending February 2

We had some snow this week in Nashua.  Gloucester didn’t see any of that.  They did see some from a squall that went through later that day.  They continued with the siding installation.  I decided to go out to Gloucester today to see the inside.  I got the keys from the builder so now we can go in anytime we want.  All the doors and windows are installed.  Last week I picked out the fixtures for the bathroom and also which kitchen sink I wanted.

Week ending January 26

There’s not much to see on the outside.  We had a snow storm last Sunday.  I watched them plow the lot next to ours and our parking area.  Then the sun came out on Tuesday.  Later in the week, the doors were installed and you can see the beginning of the siding installation.  Today I’m going to FW Webb to pick out the kitchen sink and the bathroom fixtures.  Too bad Michael is in Taiwan.  Our next site visit won’t be until President’s Day weekend.

Week ending January 19

Can’t tell what’s been done this week.  They were on the roof earlier this week.  Then I noticed what looks like a house wrap being put on, something that would happen just before the siding is put on.  The 2nd picture shows what appears to be the front door.  It’s missing in the current picture so all I can assume is that it was installed.  With snow coming this weekend and then bitter cold for the beginning of the week, I don’t know what progress will be made.

Got a 2nd estimate for the kitchen cabinets.  Came about $100 short of the ones we looked at in Gloucester.  I think we’ll go with the local ones.  They’ve worked with our builder in the past and it’ll make things easier when the time comes.

Michael goes to Taiwan mid-week for 2.5 weeks, so the next site visit will probably be on Washington’s Birthday weekend.

Week ending January 11

The week started off with light snow but about 2 hours after I snapped this picture, the snow was gone.  It looks like they finished the roof, with the 2 strips on each side of the dormer being completed.  The windows were delivered and they started to install them.  The last picture shows the windows installed this week.  Any other work was done inside.

Saturday, Jan 5, 2019

We visited the site on Saturday, just to see what’s been done.  The webcam only shows 1 side of the house and nothing about the interior.  We met Brooks and he took us inside.  I was amazed at how much has been done.  We have floors, walls going up, window frames waiting for windows.  The only thing missing was stairs.  I had to climb a ladder from the basement to 1st floor.  Not easy after only 4 months since my knee surgery but with Michael and Brook’s help, I made it.  I didn’t attempt the ladder to the 2nd floor.  The stairs will go in shortly.  The subcontractors are coming this week to look at the plumbing, electrical and heating needs.  The roof should be finished early this week, the siding goes on by the end of the month (hopefully).  They hope to have it finished by early May.

Week Ending Dec 14

Had some issues with the web cam so I had to go to Gloucester to fix it and see what progress has been made.  As you can see, the 1st floor is all framed and they are starting on the 2nd floor.  They hope to finish that next week and get the roof on and shingled before any major snow happens.  The slab in the basement was also poured.  The builder decided that the warm weather today and the coming weekend would be perfect for the pour.  The black pipe that you see in the basement is for radon removal, if necessary.   You can also see the right corner where the ledge was just too high.  That will become storage so no big deal.

Brooks says that the view from 2nd floor is going to be amazing.   You’ll be able to see Plum Cove and Ipswich Bay.  The house looks higher than I thought it would.  However, the 2nd floor that you see is a dormer, so the roof will only be about 5′ higher than what you see.  So, roof next week, windows ordered coming in 3-4 weeks, siding in February.
